Megan has been a die hard Ravens fan since their inception in 1996. She offers RavenFan.com a woman's perspective on the game and everything that surrounds it. Megan has a beautiful baby girl who she is teaching to stick out her tongue at the sheer mention of the word "Steelers".

Powderpuff

For four years I went to college in West Virginia and spent every football season listening to all of my friends rave about how wonderful the Steelers are and how much the Ravens suck.  Now, I don’t like the Steelers, nor will I EVER cheer for them, but I can admit that they are a good team.  I have come to the conclusion that even in their off years, especially right now at this point when the Ravens are definitely out performing them, that Steeler fans do not have this capability.

I am dedicating this post to my rebuttal for the only three arguments that my friends seem to have against the Ravens.  You decide for yourself.

1. The Steelers have one six Super Bowls, the Ravens have only won one.  Obviously the Steelers are a better team.

Ok… on the surface this seems like a valid argument, if you are completely uneducated in football.  I am not downplaying that the Steelers have won six times, and I congratulate them on this, but let’s look at the real facts.  The Steelers were founded in 1933.  They were called the Pirates then, but they have always been the Pittsburgh team (during the depression they merged with some other teams to have enough players, but always in Pittsburgh).  In 1940 they changed their name to the Steelers.  Now, I know that Super Bowl was not around then, but there were playoffs, and the Steelers (under any name) did not make it to these playoffs until 1947.  That’s 14 years it took them to make it to the playoffs.  Normal for a young team.  They have been around a while now so you would think they could make it to, and win some Super Bowls, like I said, they are a good team.  The Ravens came to Baltimore in 1996.  They did come from Cleveland, but they came as an expansion team.  The agreement stipulated that the Browns' name, colors, uniform design and franchise records would remain in Cleveland.  The Ravens were an expansion team, a new franchise.  They won the Super Bowl in 2000, after being around for 4 years… lets look at that fact! Pretty good if you ask me… and the Ravens are only 13 years old; by Steelers standards we shouldn’t even be going to the playoffs til next year…

2. The Ravens have a team full of murders.

Yeah, Ray Lewis was at the wrong place at the wrong time.  If you believe in the justice system, this wouldn’t even be an argument… he was acquitted… which means found not guilty.  “Big Ben” right now is fighting a sexual assault charge.  If and when he is found not guilty am I still allowed to make comments about how I wouldn’t ever want to be left in a room alone with him? How do you think that would go over with Steeler fans?

3. The Steelers are only loosing because Troy Polamalu is hurt and hasn’t been playing.

Really? Ok, he is an exceptional player.  However, football is a TEAM sport.  Come on, I really can’t believe I have to argue this one.  If a team can’t win because one player is hurt and not playing, are they really that good of a team? Stop making excuses.

That’s it.  I am sure if any Steeler fans read this, they’ll have some other reason for me that the Steelers are better then the Ravens.  But right now we are #1 in the division… the Steelers are #3… let the rankings speak for themselves.
