It was a tough loss against an excellent Vikings team. Congrats to Brett Farve and his team. He did a great job and I know even he was nervous down to the last second, he didn’t even watch the field goal attempt… but that missed field goal didn’t loose the Ravens the game. Sure, it didn’t win it for them, but it didn’t loose it either.
All I have heard after the game today was that if we had Matt Stover we would have won that game. Yeah, we may have. Stover is an excellent kicker and I know Baltimore will miss him on their team. I’m not happy that he is now signed to another team and we don’t have any chance of getting him back now, but we must move forward, not look back and think what could have been.
Steve Hauschka is a young kicker. This season he has proven he can make field goals and extra points. But no one remembers those when you miss a field goal that could win a game for your team.
Flacco had an outstanding game, he had a career high 385 yards passing and held his own against the legendary Brett Farve, yet we still didn’t win. Looking at that stat, you would have thought we should have won, and by more then just 2 points that it would have been the score is the kick was good. The Ravens rallied in the end, but it wasn’t enough. If they had gotten that momentum earlier in the game, it would have been a blow out.
My point this week is you can’t blame one person and one missed kick for a loss. It’s a whole team effort. What do I think the team needs to work on and focus on as they go in to the Bye week… Pass defense. That’s really the weakest part of the team that I see. Get that solid and we will once again be a force to be reckoned with.
Remember, even when you say “it’s his job to make field goals, that’s what he gets paid to do, he sucks cause he missed” remember doctors get paid to save your life and fix you. That’s way more important then kicking a field goal and even they make mistakes. Don’t be so judgmental…
And if you want someone to blame… you can point fingers at me. I flew my Ravens flag every game but the last 2 when I wasn’t home and forgot to put it up before I left the house… and we lost. Well, today I almost forgot to fly it but I remembered at half time… right around the time the game turned around (account for some time for the player to realize it was flying on the other side of the country)… They play better when the flag at our house flies high. Don’t worry; it’ll be up every day for the rest of the season!
